Nearly half of young adults prefer a Saturday night in this winter

Cosy night in? It’s a yes from us…

To celebrate the launch of our biggest gin of the month box to date for Christmas, we commissioned some ginny research to find out what the nation’s favourite beverage is, where you like to enjoy your tipples and whether you’re excited for a season of festive events and fun.

And as for the results?

  • 49% say they’re most likely to choose a Saturday night in over a night out this winter.

  • A gin and tonic was voted as the UK’s favourite sip.

  • Only 20% of the population are looking forward to festive events.

  • 65% agree that nights out have become more expensive than ever before.

  • 41% say they’re likely to pull a sickie to avoid a night out this winter.

  • 1 in 5 will be giving their festive work do a miss.

  • 52% claim that spirit-based concoctions made in bars are ‘too weak’.

  • 8 in 10 say they prepare a drink at home before heading on a night out.

We’ve all been there... you plan a festive night out with your friend, put it in your diary and then the day arrives - and suddenly you think: ‘can I really be bothered to brave the cold and go to that restaurant/bar?’ and the answer… is no. It’s hardly surprising that 41% of Brits say they’re likely to pull a sickie to avoid a night. *No judgement here*.

Call us unsociable, but squeezing into uncomfortable clothes, paying extortionate prices (for a bang average G&T, usually), and having to compete with a loud bar to hear your friend’s latest gossip often takes the fun out of going out.

Here at Craft Gin Club, we understand the importance of a night in - and all of the benefits that go with it: beautiful craft gin, no queues to order a drink, cosy clothes (usually) and enjoying the night on your terms - we could go on!

At Craft Gin Club, we know a good night in starts with gin - so it made total sense that a gin and tonic was voted as the favourite beverage to drink at home! That’s exactly why we created Gin of the Month boxes. And if you want to jazz up your usual G&T tipple, check out these fun gin and tonic twists.

As nightlife returns, 40% of Brits admit to liking the taste of their own single or double measures over one from a bar, with 52% claiming that concoctions made in bars are ‘too weak’. Sadly a cheap or watered-down gin and tonic just won’t cut it for us gin lovers anymore…

So what comes up top trumps: a big night out, or a big night in?

The research proves our attitude to drinking and entertainment has shifted since the pandemic, with almost half (49%) of people saying they’re more likely to choose a Saturday night in over a night out this winter. 65% of people agree that nights out have become more expensive than ever before. And who wants to pay for a big round? Umm… we’ll pass! With Christmas party season nearly upon us, only 20% of the population are actually looking forward to festive events this year, with more people opting for a cosy night in or party at home. Get the fire on…

Sound like you? Then you’re not alone: 1 in 5 polled say they’ll be giving their work do a miss - with over half of the no-shows preferring a night in. For those that are keen to shake a leg with their office pals, a whopping 48% said they’d only do so if drinks were free. Sounds about right! *Puts on fluffy socks, get’s the cocktail shaker out and hunkers down*… Bliss!
