When the gin world collides with celebrities, we’re all ears. And celebrity gins have been a hot topic in the office at Craft Gin Club HQ of late, following some huge names announcing the launch of their very own gin brands.
One thing is for sure: there’s definitely a growing appetite for celebrity gins, and there have been some very successful celebrity gin launches.
Blazing the trail for celebrity gin producers, of course, is Hollywood star and recent Wrexham FC saviour, Ryan Reynolds’, whose Aviation Gin brand blasted to the top of the international gin charts and was sold to drinks giant Diageo in 2020 for a whopping $610 million. Cheers to that!
There have also been appearances in the ginny world from Gordon Ramsay, Ozzy Osbourne, Snoop Dogg and James May, to name but a few. Latest on the celebrity gin front? Well, we don’t know where to be-gin!
The latest celebrity we’ve been nattering about? Big-screen heart-throb Brad Pitt, who has just launched a gin inspired by the French Riviera, teaming up with former Tanqueray master distiller, Tom Nichol.
The Gardener is an organic gin, designed to ‘translate the land’ of the French Riviera. And with a stunning, sparkly coastline like that, count us firmly in!
The exciting launch follows shortly after Renais Gin, the latest venture from actress Emma Watson and her brother.
The Harry Potter star has launched wine-inspired Renais Gin, using grape skins and lees sourced from the family’s vineyard in Chablis that they have owned for over 30 years. So if you love wine and gin, this one certainly sounds like magic (no spell needed!)
Next on the celeb gin launch list? None other than the gin-credible classical singer Katherine Jenkins OBE. The Welsh powerhouse has crafted her own gin, called Cygnet 22, which is made less than 6 miles away from where she grew up.
The name ‘Cygnet’ makes perfect sense, as the baby swan is the symbol of Swansea and the number 22 reflects the number of botanicals, plus the age that Jenkin’s was offered the largest record deal in classical music history! That’s certainly worth a toast.
One of the key botanicals in Cygnet 22 is Manuka honey, an ingredient Jenkins loves for its amazing throat-soothing properties. And it’s hardly surprising with an angelic voice like hers!
Another star who wants a piece of the gin pie is actress Margot Robbie, who has launched Papa Salt Coastal Gin with her husband and 3 friends, as a nod to relaxing days spent on an Aussie beach.
Using native Australian botanicals like roasted wattleseed and waxflower, you could call this gin a labour of love - as they spent over five years testing 59 different iterations of the gin before settling on the final!
Whilst we’re on the acting theme, Outlander star Sam Heughan has also launched his own gin. The Scottish actor already has an established range known as Sassenach Spirits, featuring whisky and tequila - and gin is the newest addition.
Donning a kilt on Twitter, the Scotsman revealed all of the botanicals are sourced from his motherland, the southwest of Scotland, to capture the ‘fresh, balanced, and authentic taste of Scotland’s vibrant wild nature’. And it’s safe to say Scotland knows a thing (or many!) about making gin…
With so many new launches, celebrity gins are definitely having a moment, and we’re sure there’ll be more on the way - and we’re up for trying them in the name of ginny research.
We’re also impressed at how gorgeous these celebrity gin bottles are - we wouldn’t mind having a few sat on our gin shelf in pride of place…
