Gin cocktails are always a hot topic here at Craft Gin Club HQ, so we posed a very important question ahead of World Cocktail Day on the 13th May (any excuse to talk about gin, really). The burning question on our lips? What’s your favourite cocktail of all time…
Over 1500 gin fans got gin-volved and cast their vote, answering our polls on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to reveal their all-time favourite cocktail.
So which cocktail do you think takes the crown as most popular tipple in the UK? The result may come as a surprise to many….
Well, in first place, the most-loved cocktail by over 1500 gin lovers was none other than the humble G&T! The winner was unanimous across all polls, and being such loyal gin lovers, we can’t say we’re surprised.
A G&T is perfect for any moment (seriously, when isn’t it gin o’clock?) and you can experiment with endless artisan mixers, tasty tonics, and gorgeous garnishes to find your favourite combination.
Often referred to as the ‘original cocktail’, the gin and tonic dates back to the early 19th Century, when soldiers are said to have added the spirit to quinine-rich tonic as a way to improve the bitterness of the anti-malarial mixer.
Since then, of course, the gin and tonic has come on leaps and bounds to reach its current delicious incarnation! For six top tips on how to create the perfect G&T, click here.
There were clear differences in opinion in different parts of the internet: with Twitter users naming the Margarita their top tipple - (have you tried our ginny twist?) that same cocktail garnered just 6% of the votes on Facebook!
Meanwhile over on Instagram, while the G&T collected a whopping 92% of votes, it was a closely fought contest among the runners-up, with classic cocktails like a Mojito, Bramble, Espresso Martini and the Negroni all vying for the next top spot.
A classic gin cocktail that’s seen a surge in popularity in recent years, the Negroni also took second place in the list of all-time favourite cocktails on Craft Gin Club’s Facebook channel. Simple to make and flavoursome, we’re not surprised this classic cocktail did so well. Negroni on your mind? Well, here’s how to make a perfect Negroni.
Social media users were also invited to suggest their own wild-card entries to the poll… Drum roll please!
Top among the suggestions? The Pina Colada - another retro tipple experiencing a comeback right now - as well as modern classic, the Passionfruit (or Porn Star) Martini, and the summery Long Island Iced Tea.
