Renowned chef Michel Roux Jr has teamed up with Nelson’s Distillery & School (the amazing distillery behind Craft Gin Club’s exclusive June 2019 Gin of the Month, Nelson’s Gluggle Jug Gin) to create an ultra-premium craft gin named Le Gavroche Gin after his two-starred Michelin restaurant in London, Le Gavroche.

Le Gavroche Gin by Michel Roux Jr launched on Friday, August 27th, and is available to pre-order at the Le Gavroche website here and on Nelson’s shop at this link.

The launch saw Michel Roux Jr join a growing list of celebrities with their own gins, which includes James May (Asian Parsnip Gin) and Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Pink Marmalade x Sophie Ellis-Bextor Gin).

Let’s take a look at this intriguing new tipple….

To create this fabulous craft gin, Michel Roux Jr has worked closely with Nelson’s Distillery & School founder, Neil Harrison. Neil has a Master’s in Culinary Arts and has worked in a two-Michelin star restaurant himself, so the two men had a lot of common ground and their combined knowledge of flavours has gone into this remarkable gin.

I was seeking a premium craft gin partner to work with on this product and, by chance, I got to sample Nelson’s unique Timur Gin made from a Szechuan pepper only found in Nepal. I was extremely impressed and the taste was unique and wonderful so I knew immediately the distiller had a true understanding of developing flavour combinations. When I investigated further, it was no surprise to me that Neil also has a background as a chef. I look forward to a truly successful partnership with Nelson’s and making the gin available to our diners at Le Gavroche

Together, at Nelson’s head offices in Uttoextter, Michel and Neil developed a recipe that includes 28 botanicals.

Long-term Craft Gin Club members will know just how fantastic our June 2019 Gin of the Month, Nelson’s Gluggle Jug Gin is, they voted it the Best Gin of 2019 at our Big Gin Awards. If that gin is anything to go by then we can’t wait to try Le Gavroche Gin.

But what does Le Gavroche Gin taste like?

Michel Roux Jr’s gin has a delightfully complex mix of floral, spice and herbaceous notes designed to give you a taste of Provence, France. It sounds utterly divine! (If you like Provincial Gins then our April 2021 Gin of the Month, QVT Gin Édition CGC is a must-try too!)

The announcement of the project came with this great video of Michel Roux Jr:

How much is La Gavroche Gin? This ultra-premium gin is available to order in 70cl bottles for £48 a bottle. However, Michel Roux Jr and Nelson’s Distillery have also given gin fans an extra incentive to try their new tipple.

Michel Roux and Nelson’s have launched the gin with a competition: if you purchase one of the first 1000 bottles of the new gin then you could win a meal for two at Le Gavroche and a Shared Distilling Experience at any of Nelson’s Gin & Vodka Schools. How exciting!

Where can I buy Michel Roux’s Le Gavroche Gin?

You can buy Le Gavroche Gin on the Craft Gin Club online shop at this link.

Le Gavroche Gin is also available to order on the Le Gavroche restaurant website.

Who is Michel Roux Jr?

The son of Albert Roux and the nephew of Michel Roux Sr, Michel Roux Jr comes from culinary royalty.

The Roux brothers (his father and uncle) are renowned the world over for bringing French fine dining to the UK with their restaurant Le Gavroche, which was the first restaurant in the UK to win a Michelin star - it then went on to be the first UK restaurant to win a second and a third Michelin star too!

What’s more, through The Roux Scholarship, a culinary school set up by the Roux brothers, the Roux family have had a staggering influence on the culinary tapestry of Great Britain. The Roux Scholarship has seen the likes of Marco Pierre White, Pierre Koffman, Gordon Rasmey and Sat Bains walk through its doors (as well as the great Michel Roux Jr, of course!), to name but a few.

Fans of the BBC television program Masterchef will also know Michel Roux Jr as a past judge on that cooking show, and Michel has also made appearances on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen as well as a handful of other food-focussed programs including his own BBC Two programme, Michel Roux’s Service.

With such a remarkable lineage, it’s easy to see why gin fans and foodies are so excited by Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche Gin.
