Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin, Southwestern Distillery

Tarquins Christmas Cornish Gin.jpg

This festive gin was the star of the show in our December 2018 gin of the month box and one sip of this will transport you to a cosy Christmas in Cornwall.

What does Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin taste like? Zesty clementine peel, spiced Christmas cake and frangipane on the nose. Crisp, piny juniper and mulled winter fruit up front on the pallet with top notes of sweet cinnamon and fragrant cloves. Finish of orange marmalade, cinnamon buns and eastern spice on the finish.

What are the key botanicals in Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin? Juniper, green cardamom, nutmeg, star anise, ginger, allspice, bitter almond, tonka beans, fresh grapefruit zest, fresh clementine zest, fresh lemon zest, violet, coriander seed, liquorice root, cinnamon, clove, orris root, angelica root.

What makes the Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin special? When Tarquin was first approached by Jon and John here at Craft Gin Club to make a special Christmas surprise for our members, he knew exactly what kind of spirit he was aiming to create - a gin with a sense of nostalgia to it, that evoked a concept of time and place.

To make a gin that evoked the warm nostalgia of a Christmas spent in Cornwall, they started with the botanical blend of their Cornish Dry Gin. Then, taking inspiration from the ingredients they love cooking with as the festive season approaches, they built a spirit rich with the flavours of this magical time of the year - like cinnamon, clove and allspice. You’ll want this icy blue bottle under your tree - that’s for sure!

What’s the perfect G&T with Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin? Serve with Indian tonic water and garnish with a slice of orange.

What’s the best cocktail serve with Tarquin’s ‘The Cornish Christmas’ Gin? A Gin Star Martini is a lip-smacking mix of festive flavours.

Cloudy Christmas Gin, Cotswolds Distillery

A wonderfully festive spirit, this gorgeous gin was made for Craft Gin Club members in our December 2020 gin of the month.

What does Cloudy Christmas Gin taste like? Juniper and bold, citrusy fragrances of clementine lead on the nose. The palate is rich with citrus oils, giving the liquid a delightfully smooth mouth-feel. They are joined by hints of Cotswolds lavender, juniper and cardamom, which last long into the finish.

What are the key botanicals in Cloudy Christmas Gin? Juniper, clementine, lavender, grapefruit, angelica, cardamom, coriander, bay leaf and black pepper.

What makes Cloudy Christmas Gin special? When the frost creeps in and snowflakes swirl, there’s nowhere as welcoming as the hearth of the Cotswolds Distillery. Housed in a honey-coloured building, it’s a home away from home filled with jovial spirits, laughter and roaring fires.

Bright and full of citrusy flavours, Cotswolds Dry Gin has gone on to win awards and the hearts of gin lovers all over the world. What’s more, the delectable citrus oils in this Christmas gin give it a pearlescent cloudiness when mixed with tonic that perfectly matches the tones of a frosty Christmas morning, which offers a clue to its unique flavour and mouthfeel.

What’s the perfect G&T with Cloudy Christmas Gin? Serve with Indian tonic water and garnish with star anise and slices of grapefruit.

What’s the best cocktail serve with Cloudy Christmas Gin? A Christmas Gimlet - it’s a zesty, tangy, Christmassy delight!

Copperfield Christmas Gin.jpg

Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3, The Surrey Copper Distillery

Inspired by the classic Dickens tale, this beautifully warming gin was crafted exclusively for Craft Gin Club members in December 2019.

What does Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3 taste like? This is a unique, smooth and warming gin that's rounded with gentle, spiced notes of cinnamon and clove that are beautifully balanced. It's the perfect tipple for colder nights in!

What are the key botanicals in Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3? Juniper, orris root, angelica, liquorice, coriander, lemon peel, cloves, star anise, cinnamon, sage, rosemary, wormwood and orange.

What makes Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3 gin special? Chris and Katherine always loved Charles Dickens - his ability to walk the line between traditionalist and radical reformer was inspiring. It was a balance that they wanted to achieve in the gins they make.

Bottling that feeling of warmth and togetherness was the goal, so they used their combined experience to craft a gin that met their high standards. Inspired by ‘A Christmas Carol’ they have captured the tastes and scents of the festive season. They had a little help from an unexpected source: tucked away in one of Katherine’s old books was a recipe for a gin that Dickens himself would have recognised!

This gin captures the spirit of the season without being limited by it. The sweetness, citrus and spice combine so elegantly that you could enjoy this gin as a G&T in summer easily – but, when you’re sipping in the light of the Christmas tree, this gin takes on an entirely new dimension.

What’s the perfect G&T with Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3? Premium tonic garnished with dried orange and cranberries.

What’s the best cocktail serve with Copperfield London Dry Gin Volume 3? A Gin-nog. It’s truly decadent - albeit lethal!

Sloe Gin, Warner’s Distillery

Warners Sloe Gin .jpg

We worked with Tom Warner back in June 2017 in our gin of the month box and have been hooked ever since. This Sloe gin is voluptuous, rich and fruity.

What does Warner’s Sloe Gin taste like? Rich sloe and cherry with blood oranges give a luscious nose with some sweetness. Cinnamon mixes with the tart sloes and a little sweet orange to give a truly decadent experience. The finish is long with dark chocolate, juniper and some sweetness the lingers on the palate.

What are the key botanicals in Warner’s Sloe Gin? Juniper, coriander seed, elderflower, cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon, angelica root, orange peel, lemon peel.

What makes Warner’s Sloe Gin gin special? In 2012, couple Tim and Tina made it their mission to save the world from mediocre gin. After overhauling the family farm, growing all-natural ingredients, making the process sustainable (they’re on their way to being a B Corp.), they did exactly that (and have collected many awards for their yummy gins on the way!).

Each year, in early October, Warner’s Distillery invite every man and his dog to swap their sloes at their farm in Northhamptonshire. What do they get in return? World-beating sloe gin, obviously. Once they’ve inspected their haul, they put them in their own harvest and leave them to steep for a month. A seriously sloe process… but so worth it!

What’s the perfect G&T with Warner’s Sloe Gin? Just pour over ice! It goes down well in a glass of bubbly too.

What’s the best cocktail serve with Warner’s Sloe Gin? A Sloe Gin Negroni. It’s refreshing, lightly floral and sweet.
