Spiced Apple Mimosas are our new favourite thing!

Spiced Apple Mimosas are our new favourite thing!

Looking for the perfect cocktail for an Autumnal brunch or night in with your gin pals? We have just the thing!

This Spiced Apple Mimosa cocktail recipe is fabulously fizzy (from the sparkling wine), has a good measure of gin and a hearty helping of fruity apple juice. But where does the “spiced” element come from? It’s our not-so-secret ingredient: Angostura Orange Bitters!

Those warm orange citrus notes and cinnamon and clove tones in bitters really complement the apple and the rich juniper of the gin here. It’s the perfect way to add depth and complexity to this fun and vibrant mimosa recipe (and any other cocktail recipes for that matter - which is why we just had to include it in our October 2021 Gin of the Month box!).

Spiced Apple Mimosa

What is a mimosa cocktail? Traditionally, a mimosa is a cocktail made with citrus juice (usually orange juice) and champagne. It is very similar to the classic Bucks Fizz, which is also a champagne and orange juice cocktail, the difference is in the ratio of champagne to orange juice: for a mimosa, the split is normally 50/50 champagne to orange juice, for the Bucks Fizz, the ratio is closer to 3:1.

For this mimosa recipe, we have swapped the orange juice for apple juice and have added layers of complexity with the gin and the Angostura Orange Bitters. Yum!

Per champagne flute:
25ml gin
1 dash of Angostura Orange Bitters
50ml apple juice (for an extra kick, try swapping the apple juice for cider!)
Sparkling white wine, to top (prosecco, cava and champagne all work well here!)
Slices of fresh apple, to garnish

Combine all of the ingredients in your champagne flute. Garnish and enjoy!

What other cocktails can Angostura Orange Bitters be used in?

Angostura Orange Bitters are also a fantastic way to take classic cocktails up a notch!

Try adding a dash to a classic martini recipe to add beautiful touches of orange and spice that complement the herby vermouth and rich gin wonderfully. You can find our fantastic martini recipe at this link or by clicking on the image below:

Those sumptuous spice notes also work amazingly well with Campari, sweet vermouth and gin in a classic Negroni recipe. Click here or on the image below to find our perfect Negroni recipe, just add one dash of bitters to the recipe and enjoy:

And let’s not forget the classic Gin Sour! This classic gin cocktail can be made with or without bitters but adding them is definitely our preferred method, especially Angostura Orange Bitters. Not only do they make the foam top prettier, but the warm orange and spice tones also juxtapose and complement the sharper sour citrus notes oh-so-deliciously.
