How to make your own beautiful elderflower gin!

A dash of elderflower really does make everything better. From elderflower syrup, tonic, liqueur and gin - you can’t go wrong with that soft, sweet and subtle flowery flavour. It literally makes any drink better! So what happens when two (of our favourite) worlds collide? Well - you get elderflower gin - and we’re teaching you how to make your own.

From May onwards throughout the summer months, elder trees and hedgerows are packed full of the beautiful lacy heads with their signature fragrant, delicate scent. When picking your fresh elderflower heads, remember they're best picked when the buds are freshly open on a warm, dry, sunny day, (stay well away from traffic fumes!). Sounds like the perfect weekend activity!

Light and refreshing, we are totally in love with this gin. Just get your tonic and ice at the ready, and you’re good to go. Psst - it’s easier than you think to make - you only need 10 minutes! And if you love a DIY task, we’ve also got easy-peasy recipes for strawberry gin, blackberry gin and gooseberry gin too.

Homemade Elderflower Gin

450ml gin
10 freshly picked elderflower heads
1 strip lemon peel
2 tbsp golden caster sugar

Add the gin, elderflower heads, caster sugar, and lemon peel to a jar and secure the lid. Shake well and leave to macerate in a cool place away from the sun for 48 hours. Sift the gin, ideally through muslin for a really clear gin but a sieve will do too. Enjoy!
