Here's how to make your own grapefruit gin at home!

Here at Craft Gin Club, we’re a big fan of all things grapefruit. From a grapefruit cocktails (like this Grapefruit and Elderflower Gin Fizz recipe) to a grapefruit tonic - count us in for anything that is bright and refreshing!

Bitter-sweet yet balanced, this amazing citrus fruit is a no-brainer to create your very own gin. It’s super quick to make and tastes absolutely delicious.

It’s worth knowing that in-season grapefruits are nearly as sweet as oranges. The best time to get them is November to July. Mmmmm!

If you fancy a sweeter finish for your homemade gin, be sure to pick a heavy grapefruit - the heavier, the sweeter!

Simply whip us this easy recipe and keep your eye on it for 2 weeks, and you’ve got a winner.

We’ve got a great ginny idea, too: you could bottle this pretty pink spirit and label it to make a thoughtful gin gift for your loved ones!

How to make your own grapefruit gin:

Ingredients:
3 large grapefruits
75cl gin
Kilner jar
200g caster sugar

Method:

  1. First, peel your grapefruits - and make sure to avoid any pith (this is really bitter and you don’t want any in your gin!) and slice into segments.

  2. Put these in your wide-rimmed Kilner jar along with the caster sugar. Pour in the gin, use a spoon to mix the contents, secure the lid and then shake to dissolve the sugar.

  3. Store your gin in a cool dark cupboard, shaking each day to help the sugar continue to dissolve and grapefruit infuse the gin. Leave for 1-2 weeks and give it a try - if you want a stronger flavour and colour, leave it to steep for a few more days.

  4. If you prefer your gin clear, strain the liquid through a muslin cloth or water filter jug a few times. Et voila!
