How is Mermaid Gin made?
Mermaid Gin is made by the Isle of Wight Distillery, founded by Conrad Gauntlett and Xavier Baker.
They use local, wild-foraged and ethically-sourced botanical ingredients to make Mermaid Gin. Ingredients like strawberries grown in the Isle of Wight’s Arreton Valley, rock samphire foraged on the Isle of Wight’s coastline, handpicked elderflower from local fields and Boadicea hops grown at the Ventnor Botanic Gardens on the Isle of Wight.
Those botanicals are then slowly distilled using column stills, capturing only the heart of each batch of Mermaid Gin.
The result is a sumptuously smooth craft gin that is quintessentially “Isle of Wight” in character and utterly delicious.
Why is Mermaid Gin called Mermaid Gin?
Mermaid Gin is called Mermaid Gin because it is made using rock samphire as a core botanical. Rock samphire is also known as “mermaid’s kiss”.
