Gin, grapefruit and elderflower liqueur: why didn't we know about this cocktail before?

Gin and grapefruit is, of course, a classic flavour combination, as is gin and Campari (hello, Negronis!). And we’ve certainly shaken up more than our fair share of gin cocktails containing a splash or three of elderflower. So we’re scratching our heads as to why it’s taken us quite so long to try this glorious - and gloriously simple - cocktail recipe that combines all of these fantastic ingredients!

Refreshingly tart from the citrus grapefruit; rich, ever-so-slightly bitter from the Campari and with just enough sweetness from the elderflower liqueur, this is definitely a cocktail made for sipping on a warm spring evening.

As ever, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice will take your drink to the next level, but carton-packed juice will still taste almost as delicious. For a slightly less bitter version, you could leave out the Campari; for an added dash of sweetness, simply increase the amount of elderflower liqueur (not too much, though, it’s quite potent!).

We think this would also work as a long drink, topped up with soda and ice. The adventurous among you could even add a splash of sparkling wine - why not? It’s your drink! Let us know how it turns out…
