With its joyous, daffodil-strewn promise of a world in full bloom, spring is always a great time of the year for cocktails (when isn’t a great time for a cocktail or two?). And, with so many bright, floral gins and gin cocktails out there, we love taking a look back at some of our favourites.
There are two spring gin cocktails in particular that we always stand out and they are our Spring Spritz and our Spring Sling, which was our March 2020 Cocktail of the Month. Incidentally, both of these cocktail recipes were originally created to go with one gin in particular and that is our March 2020 Gin of the Month, Ludlow Elderflower, Chamomile & Lemon Verbena Gin No. 5.
Brilliantly bright and floral, both of these tasty tipples really encapsulate everything we love about spring. But which cocktail is our favourite? That is always a focus of debate, a debate which usually ends with us trying both - just to remind ourselves, purely in the name of “science”, of course - and deciding that they are equally as delicious in their own way.
Let’s take a look at what makes both of these cocktails so special and then you can pick your favourite too.
Spring Sling
Why do we love the Spring Sling?
This truly special cocktail is a sumptuous symphony of juniper, fruit, citrus and herb flavours that never fails to get us salivating. Made with gin, lemon juice, Flawsome! Apple & Rhubarb, our bespoke Spring Sling cocktail syrup (available here) and a sprig of rosemary, this cocktail really captures the rich abundance of spring as nothing else can.
Which gin do we like to use to make the Spring Sling?
To get the full experience, this cocktail is best enjoyed with the gin it was originally created for, Ludlow Elderflower, Chamomile & Lemon Verbena Gin No. 5. The gin’s fragrant profile works so well with the apple, rhubarb and herb tones that the other ingredients in this cocktail offer.
Where do we like to drink the Spring Sling?
We absolutely love sipping this delicious serve in the garden, surrounded by blooming flowers, on a warm spring day. What bliss!

Spring Spritz
What makes our Spring Spritz so special?
With its aromatic mix of fresh garnishes, sparkling wine (or soda water for an even lighter cocktail), elderflower syrup and gin, this cocktail is so wonderfully sprightly and refreshing. Each sip transports you to the luscious green fields and colourful hedgerows of spring in Britain.
Which gin would we choose for this cocktail?
That fresh bouquet of cucumber, mint and lemon, and the sweet, floral elderflower syrup all work incredibly well with Ludlow Elderflower, Chamomile & Lemon Verbina Gin No. 5, but any floral or citrus-led gin would work in this beautiful cocktail.
Where do we like to enjoy our Spring Spritz?
A picnic in the countryside is our ideal place to mix up this tasty cocktail. Somewhere so quiet you can only hear the chirping of birds, the bubbling of a stream and the fizzing of the sparkling wine.
