The Shirley Temple is a classic non-alcoholic cocktail that was invented in Hollywood for Shirley Temple, the actress that grew to fame early in her life to become a child star - the rumour is that she saw her parents enjoying a cocktail and wanted one too.
Made with just ginger ale and grenadine (a pomegranate syrup), the traditional Shirley Temple is sweet and vibrant and completely delicious!
We have created a beautifully boozy version of that classic cocktail that’s just as festive and fun by adding a measure of sloe gin into the mix. The fruity, rich, sweet gin works so well with the sweet-tart tang of the pomegranate syrup and the brilliant, tongue-tingling zest of the ginger ale. Yum!
The Shirley Temple is usually garnished with a glowing red maraschino cherry but we have gone for a more “grown-up” combination of fresh lemon and mint. The sour lemon provides a stunning contrast to the sweet liquid of the cocktail and the mint lifts the whole experience with its wonderful fragrance.
Which sloe gin should I use in this cocktail recipe? We recommend either Anno Sloe Gin for its fruity, nutty profile or, if you prefer a less-sweet tipple, Elephant Sloe Gin is also fantastic and is made with less sugar than is usually used to make sloe gin. Both of these tasty sloe gins are available to buy on the Craft Gin Club online shop, here!
Which ginger ale should I use for this recipe? Our first choice for this sumptuous serve is London Essence Delicate Ginger Ale, which we sent to Craft Gin Club members in their December 2021 Gin of the Month box. It is just so delightfully bubbly and its subtle liquorice notes, which come from distilled star anise essence, add a moreish warmth to the mixer’s crisp, sweet flavour profile, all of which complement the other ingredients in this serve wonderfully.
Where can I buy grenadine? You can buy grenadine syrup on the Craft Gin Club online shop at this link.
