Plan the perfect ginny picnic in three easy steps!

Plan the perfect ginny picnic in three easy steps!

To celebrate the arrival of May, we sent Craft Gin Club members the newest addition to the Sunbites range of 100% wholegrain snacks, Roasted Onion and Turmeric, in their May 2021 Gin of the Month box.

Not only are they incredibly tasty, but these moreish bites pair perfectly with springtime tipples. What’s more, they are ideal for travelling with and enjoying at picnics in the sun - they really are the ‘it’ snack of spring, especially when enjoyed with a gin drink or two!

Inspired by Sunbites and our love of gin-spiked picnics, we have come up with an easy-to-follow three-step guide to our perfect ginny picnic.

Step 1: Pack your basket

Start with the essentials for a picnic in the sun: suncream, sunglasses, drinks and Sunbites along with any other finger foods and don’t forget the gin, of course!

Bite-sized and packed with flavour, the Roasted Onion and Turmeric Sunbites that we included in our May 2021 Gin of the Month box are 100% wholegrain, super satisfying and a great way to start an alfresco feast - they go great with olives and cheeses and any tasty dips you love.

Once you’ve got those packed, be sure to pop a comfy picnic blanket, hand sanitiser and paper towels into your basket as well as any cutlery and glassware you may need.

Step 2: Don’t forget the gin!

No grown-up picnic is complete without a generous helping of gin!

Here, it’s all about pre-mixing and bottling cocktails ready to pour at your picnic, so we recommend whipping up one of your favourites and pouring it into a glass bottle, jam jar, flask or Thermos, which you can easily place in your basket or a cooler.

High-ABV cocktails such a Negroni or Aviation are good options to go for when bottling cocktails but Roasted Onion and Turmeric Sunbites pair particularly well with Martinis, so that would be the first cocktail on our list - with the refreshing flavours of the drink complementing the gentle spice of the savoury snack.

Whichever cocktail you decided to take with you, be sure to prepare all of your garnishes in advance so you don’t need to chop them there. Tupperware boxes and zip-lock bags are a great way to transport your garnishes to your picnic site.

Step 3: Hit the spot

With outdoor eating becoming particularly popular in late spring and summer, you’ll want to make sure you snag the perfect picnic spot, away from any areas that get too busy.

Be sure to scout out your destination in advance, whether it’s beneath a leafy tree in a park, a meadow full of wildflowers or, if you’re lucky enough to live by the coast, overlooking the sea. Once there, lay out your blanket and your picnic spread – with Sunbites and gin as the stars, you’re in for a treat!

You can discover the whole range of Sunbites flavours at all major retailers, but if the new Roasted Onion & Turmeric tickles your fancy, head to Waitrose, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Asda or Ocado to stock up!
