How is TŌSH Gin made?
TŌSH Gin is made by Jiri Omelka and Barbara Omelkova, the husband-and-wife team that founded TŌSH Distillery.
They use a range of local and international botanicals, including a mix of Serbian, Macedonian and Italian juniper berries, and two different types of coriander - one from Morocco and one from Syria.
Local Moravian poppyseeds are used to give TŌSH Gin a smooth, full mouthfeel, while Moravian rosehip and rowan berries, from the Jeseniky Mountains of Moravia, are used to add complex floral and fruity sweet-and-sour flavours to the gin. Find the full list of TŌSH Gin botanicals below:
Which botanicals are used to make TŌSH Gin? Juniper, fresh Lemon, fresh lime, fresh orange, coriander, angelica root, cubeb berry, cassia, dried lemon peel, poppyseed, rosehip, sweet rowan berry, orris root, nutmeg, cardamom, makrut lime leaf and lemon balm leaf.
The hardier botanicals like juniper and poppyseed are macerated in historic Czech whisky stills overnight and then the rosehips and rowan berries are added to the still too.
TŌSH Gin’s softer botanicals like herbs and citrus peels are added to a vapour distillation basked which sits above the still to flavour the evaporating liquid as it continues through the distilling process.
The distilling process takes just a few hours to produce the remarkable liquid in every bottle of TŌSH Gin.
TŌSH Gin is bottled in glass bottles with a bear named “Hector” on the label. Hector is a symbol of the strength of TŌSH Gin. He has a poppy in his mouth, which represents not only a key botanical of the gin but also the abundant Moravian landscape as a whole.
What does “TŌSH” mean? “TŌSH” is a Czech word that has no direct translation in English. Its closest translation is “well then” and it is often used at the beginning of a sentence with levity.
What does TŌSH Gin taste like?
On the nose, citrus mingles with rich spices. These carry through on the palate, with juniper at the forefront, supported by the soft floral notes of rosehip and Czech poppyseed, which creates an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. To finish, the flavour of sweet rowan berry marries with a burst of zest. Delicious!
Where is TŌSH Gin made?
TŌSH Gin is made at the TŌSH Distillery in Moravia, a beautiful, historic region of the Czech Republic. Moravia is one of three ancient kingdoms that made up the Czech Republic with Bohemia and Silesia being the other two.
