Whether you’re more concerned about their high levels of anti-oxidants, nutritional benefits and low calories, or simply love their rich purple colour and sweet, juicy flavour, blueberries are undoubtedly a delightful treat for all seasons!
Even better, you can enjoy blueberries all year round and the frozen variety are just as good as the fresh ones, as farmers quickly freeze berries immediately after harvesting them, so the flavour and freshness are fantastic when you do get around to thawing them out.
We’ve taken the classic mojito and given it a ginny makeover, then infused it with crushed blueberries for a gorgeous indigo blush colour and deep, fruity flavour. Yum! (And if you swoon over a gin and berry combo, try this raspberry gin mojito too). You can use fresh or frozen berries for this tasty tipple. Simple syrup can be bought in the shops or online; alternatively, it’s incredibly quick, easy and cheap to make your own, and any leftover syrup can be used in other cocktails, soft drinks or even desserts. Chin chin!
Blueberry Gin Mojito
About 15 blueberries, plus extra to garnish
40ml gin
30ml simple syrup*
30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
A few mint leaves
Soda water, to top up
Fresh mint leaves, to garnish (optional)
Add your blueberries and mint leaves to your gin glass and squash them very gently with the back of a spoon, just enough to release the juices. Add lots of ice, your gin, 30ml of the simple syrup and lemon juice, and stir. Top up with soda; taste and adjust the quantities of simple syrup, gin or lemon juice according to your preference. Garnish with a few fresh blueberries and some small, fresh mint leaves.
