Here at Craft Gin Club, we’re all about transforming your drinking experience at home into something wonderful. However, the real gin-lovers among us will also be overjoyed to know that you don’t need to abandon your beautiful craft gin cocktails when you go away!
Here are just some of the best places in the UK we found where you can enjoy a fantastic, gin-infused getaway. Happy holidays!
Bella Luce, the Gin Hotel, Guernsey
This luxurious boutique hotel on Guernsey is unique in that it is also home to its very own artisanal gin distillery and brand, Wheadon’s Gin!
The small-batch gin is produced in gleaming traditional copper stills in the atmospheric cellar lounge of the hotel by the Wheadon family, who have been involved in the production and distribution of fine alcohol on Guernsey for over a hundred years. Join them for a guided gin tour and tasting before retiring to your room for the night!
The Distillery, London
Don’t let the facade of this building fool you - inside this apparent old-fashioned boozer are four smartly decorated storeys housing a working gin distillery for the production of Portobello Road gin, a restaurant, two bars, the Ginstitute gin school, and a handful of boutique bedrooms overlooking the rooftops of West London.
So basically, you can learn about the history of gin, do some proper gin tastings, have a go at making your own gin, recover with a professional gin and tonic at the bar, then toddle up to bed to recover. Dreamy.
The Verzon House Hotel, Herefordshire
The owners of the Verzon House Hotel in Ledbury, William and Kate Chase, are also the team behind the eponymous Chase Gin Distillery, located a short drive from the hotel.
As well as being able to sample the family-owned gin with dinner or at the bar, guests at this elegant 18th-century former farmhouse can take part in cocktail masterclasses, and take guided tours of the distillery - with tastings, of course.
The Talbot, Yorkshire
The Talbot is a renowned foodie hotspot. Set inside a seventeenth-century riverside coaching inn in the gourmet destination of Malton, the hotel has all sorts of gastronomic packages and experiences available, from food tours of the area to hands-on lessons at the cookery school.
For gin lovers, there’s the chance to pair your hotel getaway with a visit the Rare Bird Distillery, North Yorkshire’s first gin school, for a tour with tasting and a session producing a miniature bottle of your very own handmade gin!
De Vere Tortworth Court, South Gloucestershire
De Vere Tortworth Court is a Grade II listed manor house hotel that sits within a beatuiful estate dating back to the Domesday Book! The hotel has teamed up with the local craft gin distillery, producers of 6 O’Clock Gin, to create a bespoke package for gin lovers. Included in the cost is an afternoon tour of the distillery with tastings and a couple of gin measures waiting for you in your room - take them to the bar and the hotel’s bartender will whip up a gin cocktail of your choice for you!
Loch Leven Hotel & Gin Distillery, Inverness-shire
The Loch Leven Hotel, a historic ferry Inn dating back to the era of Bonnie Prince Charlie, has a truly showstopping setting on the edge of the lake and with the majestic Glencoe towering above.
Of course, with a location like that, you’re ideally placed for hiking in the hills, but when the weather doesn’t allow, may we suggest a visit to the little craft gin distillery in the hotel's grounds? You can sample the hotel’s very own gin - Devil's Staircase - and gin school classes are also available on certain dates.
Hotel du Vin, Cambridge
This smart city-centre hotel has paired up with the Cambridge Distillery to create a special package for gin lovers, including a Friday or Saturday night stay, dinner, breakfast and a gin masterclass at the Cambridge Distillery Showroom. In other words, it’s your whole weekend sorted in one easy booking.
The Rosewood Hotel, London
Here’s one for the lottery-winners among us! The Rosewood Hotel is an uber-luxurious pad in the heart of buzzy Holborn whose prices are, well, what you’d expect to pay for such a sumptuous experience! Luckily, the hotel’s restaurant, Holborn Dining Room, while still extremely swish, is a little more accessible; even better, the restaurant’s Gin Bar houses London’s most extensive gin collection! If you are looking for a weekend getaway to celebrate a really special occasion - with the gin cocktails to match - this is one for the list.
Salcombe Harbour Hotel, Devon
The excellent Salcombe Distillery and Gin School is just ten minutes’ walk from the Salcombe Harbour Hotel, a beautiful bijou bolthole with a fabulous location overlooking the sparkling waters of the estuary. While the hotel doesn’t offer packages per se, it’s pretty easy to simply book a masterclass or a guided tour with tastings at the distillery and then head back to the hotel for some more G&Ts on the outdoor terrace.
The Trout Hotel, Cumbria
The award-winning Lakes Distillery, renowned for both its whisky and gin, is located just six miles away from The Trout Hotel in charming Cockermouth. The Telegraph describes this “handsome riverside hotel” as “an ideal base for exploring the quieter western Lake District”. The hotel has a special 2-night Lakes Distillery package, or you could just arrange your own visit during your stay, for guided tours and tastings.
The Princess Victoria, London
The Princess Victoria in West London’s Shepherd’s Bush was originally a gin palace, built in 1829. It has recently been updated into an elegant food-focused public house and also features five boutique bedrooms on the top floor, with each individually decorated room named after a classic gin cocktail, in tribute to the building’s heritage!
The links to gin don’t stop there, though - the handsome bar offers guests more than 100 gins, from the small artisanal brands to the popular big names.
Vineyard at Stockcross, Berkshire
There are a number of good local hotels that have teamed up with Bombay Sapphire Distillery to create packages for gin lovers; our pick of the bunch is the Vineyard at Stockcross, a 5-star spa hotel with great gourmet and wine options if gin isn’t your only vice!
Included in the hotel’s Bombay Gin Break package are transfers to and from the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery (a 20-minute drive away), a self-guided tour and a gin cocktail of your choice.
