The Top Five AMAZING Bars in Helsinki

Besides being home to some of the world’s most amazing art, our beautiful gin of the month the Kyrö Napue Gin and reindeer burgers (sorry, Rudolph) Helsinki has some of the most amazing cocktail bars in the world.

Here are our top 5:

1. TRILLBY & CHADWICK DETECTIVE AGENCY

A trip to Trillby & Chadwick will transport you back to 1920's Finland, where prohibition laws were firmly in place and the fight to combat alcohol smuggling was real.

Themed as Helsinki's branch of a London detective agency, you will find this amazing secret speakeasy behind an unmarked wooden door on Katariinankatu street. Sherlock Holmes would be right at home here.

2. KAPPELI

You cannot go to Helsinki without visiting the breath-taking Kapelli. This stunning glass atrium that dates back to 1867 is a modern bar, cafe, restaurant and summer nightclub, serving local beers as well as wines, classic cocktails and Champagne.

You can read the news comfortably on the leather sofas, share drinks with friends, catch the sun on the huge terrace, listen to live piano music on Friday nights or just relax in the beautiful surroundings, soaking in the atmosphere.

3. SVENKA TEATERN

The Svenka Teatern (Swedish Theatre) was built in 1935 and is arguably one of the most beautiful buildings in the Finnish capital.

Now home to six of the best restaurants and bars in Helsinki, there is the excellent Teatteribaari, an all day long cocktail lounge bar with DJs each night (Monday - Saturday), the Kellobaari which comes to life after dark (Wednesday - Saturday until 04:00), and the Klubi nightclub (Thursday - Saturday until 04:00) with its beautiful terrace ideal for the 19 hours of sunshine Helsinki enjoys in the summer.

4. ATELJÉE BAR

You will find this fabulous cocktail bar on the 14th floor of the Hotel Torni, so expect some of the best views of Helsinki and an impressive cocktail list. With a huge panorama and a pleasant open terrace, Ateljee is a great place to start your evening on a warm and balmy, Finnish night.

5. JAIL YARD TERRACE

This former prison dates back to 1837 and is definitely worth a visit on a sunny day. Pop along for beautiful drinks, live music and tranquil surroundings and if it’s too cold or wet to sit in the yard, there is a separate pub located in the cellar! But don't worry, you should be able to get out early on good behaviour...or not.
