Inspired by the Brazilian birthplace of our Gin of the Month for July 2020, we’ve given the quintessential Brazilian cocktail a gin makeover: meet the Gin Caipirinha!
This modern version of the classic cocktail has been created by Craft Gin Club master mixologist, Maria - herself a native of Brazil, so we’re allowed! She says: “This cocktail is totally engraved in our culture and enjoyed by everyone – it’s probably the first cocktail you’ll try when you set foot in Brazil.
“Usually made with the national spirit, cachaça, our gin version is just as good as the original!” We’ve tried it here at Craft Gin Club HQ, and we couldn’t agree more - we hope you’ll try this easy recipe at home and enjoy it just as much as we do!
Gin Caipirinha
½ lime, cut into quarters
3 tsp brown sugar
50ml gin
Lime wheel and/or mint sprig, to garnish
Begin by cutting a lime in half length-ways, then quarter it. Pop two of your lime slices into a shaker with three teaspoons of brown sugar and muddle. Add your gin, then ice. Shake well, then open the shaker and pour the lot into a rocks glass (no straining necessary!). Garnish and serve.
