This wonderful take on the classic Martini has been invented by the team behind our exclusive October 2020 Gin of the Month, Whitby Gin The Demeter Edition. It’s inspired by folklore tales about elder trees, which were said to be the favourites of village witches. The tree itself can even appear like a stooped old lady under the light of the full moon. It’s for this reason that this beautiful cocktail has been so affectionately named The Elder Witch.
We can’t claim that the cocktail has any supernatural properties, of course, but its spooky inspiration and rich mix of gin, dry vermouth and elderflower liqueur make it a perfect cocktail recipe to enjoy on Halloween.
The Elder Witch
Whitby Gin The Demeter Edition is our first choice for this cocktail. Its heady mix of juniper notes and complex floral and spice tones are a delicious match for the sweet floral bouquet of the elderflower liqueur and the dry herbaceous flavours of the vermouth. The olives then add wonderfully fragrant savoury notes that make this cocktail truly special.
