Inspired by the classic cocktail, the Bloodhound - which use raspberries, not strawberries - this fruity Martini has an added layer of delicate sweetness that is simply lovely!
Feel free to play around with the quantities and ratios of the ingredients - as with a classic martini, you may enjoy it a little “wetter” or “drier”, depending on your personal preference!
We’ve also used a relatively large quantity of maraschino liqueur, because we love the rich, fruity and sweet depth it adds to the drink, to counteract the strong, dry spirits. However, you could start with less (5-10ml) or leave it out altogether, if you wish.
Final tip: do use really ripe, fresh strawberries for this cocktail recipe (or you could defrost frozen berries) as they will muddle more easily in the shaker or mixing glass and all the colours and flavours will infuse the drink more fully.
Strawberry Martini
5 or 6 fresh, ripe strawberries, plus one extra for garnish
30ml gin
30ml sweet vermouth
30ml dry vermouth
15ml maraschino liqueur
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberries. Add rest of ingredients and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with strawberry slice or a twist of lemon peel.
