We’ve given the classic Paloma cocktail recipe a fun gin twist with this spicy take on the traditional recipe.
Made using gin, Double Dutch Skinny Tonic Water (which we sent to Craft Gin Club members in their September 2022 Gin of the Month box), lots of citrus juice and chilli salt, this is a vibrant serve that’s easy to make at home.
As you probably know, the traditional Paloma cocktail recipe has tequila, soda water and grapefruit juice as its core ingredients - and it’s a fantastic, refreshing cocktail that’s worth a try too! But we just love this alternative recipe's rich, complex mix of flavours.
Here, the juniper of the London dry gin works so well with the sweet-tart, tangy grapefruit juice and the Double Dutch Skinny Tonic Water then complements and lifts everything wonderful with its effervescent touches of juniper, grapefruit and delightfully bitter quinine.
The chilli salt adds a moreish, rambunctious hit of heat that contrasts the refreshing bite of the citrus juices deliciously.
We can’t wait for you to give this cocktail a try!
Spicy Gin Paloma
50ml gin
50ml fresh grapefruit juice
Double Dutch Skinny Tonic Water, to top
1 tsp lime juice
1 tsp simple syrup
Chilli salt to rim the glass (a tablespoon of course salt mixed with an equal amount of chilli powder)
Fresh grapefruit slice or lime slice, to garnish
Place the chilli salt in a saucer and rub the rim of your glass with a fresh lime wedge. Dip the lime-coated rim of the glass into the chilli salt until evenly coated. Just do a small portion of the rim if you don’t want too much spice.
Add the gin, grapefruit juice, lime juice and syrup to the glass with ice. Top up with the tonic water and stir. Garnish with fresh grapefruit or lime. Serve and enjoy!
