A classic combination of grapefruit, salt and gin, the Salty Dog has been enjoyed for decades. The grapefruit botanicals in November 2018’s Shetland Reel Filska Gin compliments the tartness of the grapefruit and provides a more rounded flavour, and the thyme syrup adds a delicate, herbal sweetness and depth. Try adding some grapefruit zest for a citrus twist!
Salty Sea Dog
35ml Sheetland Reel Filska Gin
15ml thyme syrup*
20ml grapefruit juice
1tsp salt
A wedge of pink grape fruit and a sprig of thyme, to garnish
Pour your ingredients into a salt-rimmed rocks glass containing ice. Use a cocktail stirrer to mix thoroughly. Rim the glass with salt, then garnish with a wedge of pink grapefruit and a sprig of thyme and serve.
*To make the thyme syrup, add 150ml of sugar to 150ml of water and bring to a boil in a saucepan. After the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the hob and add a few sprigs of thyme. Cover the saucepan for 15 minutes, allowing to infuse. When cool, strain and refrigerate your syrup.
