Port, gin and cherry come together in this stunning after-dinner cocktail that’s rich and sumptuous and perfect for enjoying on cosy evenings in with your favourite gin pals.
The recipe couldn’t be easier to make at home. All you have to do is stir the gin with port, cherry-flavoured Maraschino liqueur (available here) and a touch of lime juice to lift all of those delectably decadent flavours.
It works fantastic with a good cheese board, and we also love enjoying this cocktail with the Carr’s Cheese Melts in Craft Gin Club’s September 2022 Gin of the Month box. With their wonderfully cheesy flavour and delicate texture, they are fantastic for topping with things like pate and smoked fish to use as canapes with rich, ruby-coloured cocktails like this one - they are also excellent on cheese boards!
They are a must-try…
15ml gin
45ml Ruby Port
10ml lime juice
10ml Maraschino liqueur
Lime wedge, to garnish
Cherries, to garnish
Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir for about 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled goblet glass (or a port wine glass) and squeeze a lemon peel on top before discarding it.
