The Martinez is a must for any cocktail lover. Said to be the forefather of the Martini and closely connected to the Manhattan (just swap the whiskey for gin), the Martinez is a wonderfully dark, slightly sweet and subtly spiced tipple that combines gin (preferably Old Tom), sweet vermouth, maraschino (cherry) liqueur and orange or Angostura bitters.
This version, using Perfume Trees Gin, from our April 2020 Gin of the Month box, is a touch lighter than the traditional recipe, as the floral London Dry Gin creates a more delicate balance against the vermouth and sweet maraschino liqueur. The orange bitters then maintain that old school richness, providing solidarity with the cocktail’s roots. What a delicious concoction!
