Is anything more exotically tantalising to the British palette than the zingy, sweet-sharp flesh of the enticingly named passion fruit?! A long-time favourite among cocktail drinkers - most famously as the key ingredient in the Pornstar Martini - the passion fruit is also a fantastic match for many gin cocktails.
We’ve come up with one such recipe, the Passion Fruit Smash, which you can also find in our brand-new cocktail book, Gin O’Clock: A Year of Ginspiration (now available on our online shop, woo!). A mouth-watering combination of gin, fresh fruit juice and passion fruit syrup, this tasty tropical tipple is a sure-fire summer smash-hit!
Passion Fruit Smash
50ml gin
20ml passion fruit syrup*
1 tsp fresh lime juice
20ml freshly squeezed orange juice
Cucumber slices and a mint sprig, to garnish
*To make the passion fruit syrup, combine 250ml water with 250g sugar and the pulp of three passion fruits in a saucepan. Heat gently until you have a syrupy consistency, strain and cool.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add 20ml of the passion fruit syrup, together with the gin and lime and orange juices. Shake and strain into a highball glass packed with ice. Garnish with cucumber slices and a mint sprig to serve in style!
