The fuschia is bright for this picture-perfect floral gin bar

Each month, Craft Gin Club introduces you to one of the best gin bars in the UK. These boutique bars each have their own strong personality, decor and drinks selection, but they all have one thing in common: a shared love of our favourite spirit, where you can continue your exploration into the wonderful world of gin! This month, we’ve chosen a gem in the heart of London town.

Upon arriving at Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals in London’s charming Fitzrovia district, you’ll be greeted by an abundance of flowers, foliage and eclectic artefacts. Named in honour of the title character of Jules Verne’s 1873 novel Around the World in Eighty Days, the bar’s aim is to take guests on a sensory journey to an enchanted land of plants, herbs and spices that Phileas Fogg himself might have experienced on his voyage.

The leafy ground floor is ideal for a casual tipple, with sky-high ceilings and large sash windows creating a light-filled, airy atmosphere. Relax amongst the blooms and hanging vines surrounding the handmade oak bar, and admire the antique horticultural prints on the wood-panelled walls.

On balmy spring evenings, the French doors open up onto the outdoor seating area where you can enjoy a drink under the setting sun and twinkling stars. Speaking of which…

The venue has carefully selected 22 gins based on aroma, taste and style. “We want to offer unique experiences, and trying a new gin should feel like starting an adventure,” explains Emma Welsh of Mr. Fogg’s. We tried the Fever-Grass Dream (pear; lavender; lemongrass) and the Gully of Ferns (bergamot; rose; rhubarb) - both seriously pleasurable signature cocktails made with gin.

Well, make a reservation and you can venture up into the cosy Victorian parlour to sample an inventive drinks menu dedicated to the Secret Language of Flowers. Inspired by the Victorian tradition of expressing secret emotions by the giving of certain flowers, the menu has floral cocktails to represent courtship, friendship, beauty and love.

You can also pair your cocktails with an array of delicate sweet and savoury dishes. We can confirm that the crumpets drenched in whipped honey butter with rosemary honeycomb are absolutely delectable!
