This weekend, may we suggest you forgo the usual vodka-and-tomato classic brunch cocktail - the Bloody Mary - and be just a little more adventurous, by opting for its delicious gin-based cousin, the Red Snapper?
Yes, bold, spicy and deliciously savoury, this Craft Gin Club favourite is a fabulous alternative brunch cocktail - by swapping the vodka for gin, the drink is transformed into a botanical wonder packed full of (even more) flavour!
You can spice up your Red Snapper with Tabasco sauce, as you would a Bloody Mary, or if you’re feeling fancy - perhaps you’re hosting a New Year’s brunch for lots of friends and family and can prep in advance - we do recommend you spend 10 minutes making your own chilli syrup (recipe below).
It adds an incredible layer of heat and flavour that you won’t get elsewhere! (If, of course, you’re just looking for a pick-me-up after the Night Before, go for the Tabasco. No judgement here…)
Red Snapper
45ml Gin
60ml Tomato juice
20ml Lemon juice
Tabasco or homemade chilli syrup*, to taste
15ml Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
Celery, Olive, Chillis, Lemon or Fresh Herbs, to garnish
Combine all ingredients in a large glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, salt and fresh cracked pepper.
*For homemade chilli syrup:
5-10 Long red chillies (or to taste)
600ml Rice vinegar
200ml sugar syrup
60ml Salt flakes
If you’re making your own chilli syrup: Pop everything into a blender and give it a whizz until you’re left with a well-blended liquid. Adjust the seasoning and quantities of chilli according to your preference. Strain and allow to cool before using. Leftover syrup will keep in your fridge.
