If you have ever tried a craft gin like Warner’s Strawberry & Rose Gin or Poetic License Strawberry & Cream Gin then you will already know what a fantastic flavour pairing strawberry and juniper make. What you might not know is that strawberry-flavoured gin is actually so easy to make at home.
For our homemade strawberry gin recipe, all you need are fresh strawberries, some caster sugar, lots of gin and a little time. When those things come together you are left with a spectacular, slightly pink, strawberry-flavoured gin that’s perfect for using to make cocktails or enjoying in a G&T with your gin pals.
As with all homemade flavoured gins, the effort is minimal - it literally takes 10 minutes or less of preparation time - but there is a slight wait while you give the strawberries time to macerate in the gin, so be sure to account for that if you are making this flavoured gin for a special someone or event.
When is the best time of the year to use strawberries to make flavoured gin?
In the UK, strawberries are in season between late May and early September, so you have a nice big window to go and pick some fabulous ripe strawberries for this recipe. We want to capture the flavour of strawberries at their best, so we definitely recommend waiting for that window in the year to make this gin. You may also want to check with local farms to find out when the best time to pick their strawberries is, as that can be affected by the weather.
