Urgh, it’s that time of year when we’re really over the winter already, but we’ve still got two months of long, dark nights and freezing rain to get through before spring bursts through again - and what’s worse, we’re all suffering with sneezes, runny noses and sore throats - booo!
If your annual go-to for helping to soothe your winter woes is a traditional hot toddy, take a look at this gin-spiked version, which combines immune-boosting, vitamin C-packed lemon juice, anti-inflammatory ginger and virus-battling honey. Oh, and a splash of gin, you know, because a little treat when you’re feeling sorry for yourself never hurt anyone, right?! We’ll see you in the spring, gin-lovers. Take care of yourselves!
Lemon, ginger and honey hot toddy
125ml hot water (not boiling)
55ml fresh lemon juice
45ml honey
Half-inch piece of ginger, chopped into thick slices
35ml gin
Lemon, lavender or thyme, to garnish
Add your water, lemon juice, honey and ginger to a pan, cover and heat very gently for 15-20 minutes to infuse all the flavours. Once ready, add your gin and strain into a mug, garnish and serve.
