Is that the pitter patter of rain we hear or just the pop and fizz of this sensational sparkling cocktail from Perfume Trees Gin (which we sent our members in their April 2020 Gin of the Month box)?!
April is the start of the rainy season in Hong Kong, the home of Perfume Trees Gin. And with it comes new sensory delights for anybody who may wonder the streets and groves about the city and its outer, more pastoral, limits. This cocktail recipe captures those fragrant delights in one glass (or two!).
Here, the floral gin works with the orange notes of the Cointreau and herby spice of the sisho liqueur to place you in tropical climes. The elderflower tonic water then provides the effervescent sensation of watching wonderful rain fall all around.
Listen to the sound, smell the fruity grasses and flowering trees hum with life affirming water - tropical refreshment abounds!

Get to know your ingredients: Shiso liqueur is a rare ingredient in the UK, so you can be forgiven for never having heard of it before. It is a liqueur made from the shiso plant, which is also known as the beefsteak plant, perilla mint or Chinese basil (to name a few) and can be used like any other soft herb in cooking. It has complex notes of mint, cinnamon and anise which can add lots of sophistication to anything it is used with, as the liqueur does in this cocktail recipe!
