Get to know Twisted Tonic Thai Lime & Lemongrass!
What does it taste like?
A fusion of the vibrant, tropical flavours of Thai Lime and Lemongrass along with subtle cardamom notes and a refreshing sweetness.
What makes it special?
Brimming with the sweetness of lemonade, this is a craft tonic water with a difference.
What does it pair well with?
Zesty and floral gins such as Brass Lion Singapore Gin, of course, but it’s just as divine with any zesty and floral gins. It can also be enjoyed straight, or in cocktails.
We caught up with the founder of Twisted, Regan Moran. Here’s what he had to say!
What was the inspiration behind Twisted Tonic?
“When I was 19, I was working in bars, restaurants and nightclubs in Glasgow. I’d noticed people were struggling to find the right mixer for gin. A customer asked me to recommend a mixer for her premium, fruity gin as she didn’t like the bitterness of tonic water, but the only options available were a bitter tonic water and an overpowering lemonade. Twisted Tonic gives an extra option when choosing a mixer for your gin and solves a problem in the industry of limited mixer options.”
How did Twisted Tonic come about?
“I had the opportunity to work with the recipe developer for Innocent Smoothies and Capri Sun, who managed to create a recipe that made bitter tonic water taste sweeter than any other option in the market. We decided to call ourselves Twisted because we twist the tropical flavours in the tonic together.”
Could you tell us more about the flavour?
“The Thai lime is more pungent than a standard lime, and together with the lemongrass and cardamom it creates the perfect balance between bitterness and sweetness. We use only premium ingredients, as well as a perfect ratio of quinine (which comes from the bark of the Cinchona tree) so that the full sweetness of the exotic fruits really shines through.”
How did your travels to Southeast Asia influence its creation?
“The culture really inspired me, and I tried a lot of ingredients and pairings I’d never sampled before, such as Thai lime, lemongrass and cardamom. With Twisted Tonic, we're bringing the flavours of Southeast Asia to the UK, and people are getting a taste of Singapore when they sip it.“
What sets you apart from other tonic waters?
“While the main ingredient in Twisted Tonic is still quinine, we’re not a standard tonic water; we offer an alternative for those looking to try something new. We’re a premium tonic water with all the benefits of classic tonic water, but with the sweetness of lemonade. Our fun and vibrant brand also sets us apart from other tonic waters, and provides a perfect pairing with this month’s Gin of the Month.”
What makes your tonic water ideal for summer sipping?
“The ingredients speak for themselves, as they’re so summery and exotic. Tonic water is typically plain, and doesn’t tend to have much of a summer feel about it. With our tropical flavours and branding, we’d like people to feel as if they’re on a beach somewhere, or enjoying a barbecue or a picnic in the park on a hot summer’s day while tasting it. If this month’s box and our tonic can be taken down to the beach to be enjoyed, that's the ideal scenario.”
