The world is full of weird and wonderful cocktail recipes for you to try. Can you tell how many of these are real or fake? The results may shock you!

The Bull Shot

Ingredients

50ml gin
100ml cold beef stock
15ml fresh lime juice
Worcester sauce, a dash
Tabasco, a dash
salt, a pinch
black, pepper a pinch
lime wedge, to garnish

Method

Shake all of your ingredients with ice and strain into a glass full of ice.

The answer is: Fake, well kind of fake. The real recipe has vodka instead of gin. Now that is one meaty beverage!


C&C Collins

Ingredients

50ml gin
25ml lime juice
15ml cilantro syrup
15ml celery syrup
2 stalks of fresh coriander
25ml club soda
2 dashes of celery bitter
2 dashes of balsamic vinegar

Method

Combine the gin with the lime juice, syrups and one stalk of coriander in a shaker filled with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds then strain over ice into a Collins glass. Top with club soda and garnish with one fresh coriander stalk and two dashes of balsamic vinegar.


The answer is: Real! That’s right, coriander haters look away. This cocktail recipe was invented by Eric Poplar of one of Brooklyn’s top Mexican restaurants, Alta Calidad!


The Caesar

Ingredients

50ml gin
120ml Clamato juice (a ready mixed juice of clams and tomatoes - available online)
Worcestershire sauce, a dash
hot sauce, a dash
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp steak seasoning (any brand available in supermarkets)
lime wedge
celery, to garnish

Method

Firstly, create a salt and steak seasoning rim using the lime wedge to moisten the lip of your glass. Then then dunk the rim of your glass into the mixture of salt and seasoning on a plate, making sure the lip is evenly coated. Then add ice, gin, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and Clamato juice to your glass. Stir and garnish.

Caesar Cocktail Recipe

The answer is: Real! Although this may smell a little fishy we can assure you that it is a real drink that is a favourite of Canada!


The McCocktail Shake

Ingredient

50ml gin
250ml milk
1 cheese burger
1 portion of Fries
vanilla ice cream, 2 scoops
salt, a pinch

Method

Blend all of the ingredients together and serve in a tall glass with a spoon.


The answer is: Fake! Or at least we think it is, what mad mixologist would dare attempt to create this crazy monster?


The Bacon and Egg Martini

Ingredients

50ml bacon infused Jack Daniels
15ml maple syrup
10ml lemon juice
1 egg white
orange bitters, a dash
1 rasher of cooked, streaky bacon, to garnish
1 Haribo fried egg, to garnish

Method

Add all of your ingredients to a shaker and dry shake (shake with no ice). Add ice and shake again. Strain into a champagne coupe and garnish with a rasher of streaky bacon and a Haribo egg.


The answer is: Real! This surprisingly delicious cocktail is from the London Cocktail Club!


The Tuna Red Snapper

Ingredients

45ml Gin
60ml Tomato juice
20ml Lemon juice
Tabasco or homemade chilli syrup*, to taste
15ml Worcestershire sauce
1 tin of tuna
Salt and pepper

Method

Combine all ingredients in a large glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, salt and fresh cracked pepper.


The answer is: Fake! No this one is not real, it sounds more like it could be a pasta sauce. We do love a Red Snapper without the fishy addition though!


Sweet and Sour Chicken Toddy

Ingredient

50ml gin
150ml chicken broth
25ml lime juice
25ml pineapple syrup
1/2 tsp Sriracha sauce
stare anise, to garnish

Method

Add all ingredients except the gin to a saucepan over medium heat and stir until warm. Add the gin to a mug and top with heated broth mixture from the saucepan. Garnish with the star anise.


The answer is: Real! This crazy elixir is the brain child of Chad Solomon, bartender at Midnight Rambler in Dallas. It’s an old school takeaway in a glass!


The Ant Nest Martini

Ingredients

50ml gin
10ml Grand Marnier
10ml Martini Rosso
5ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tbsp ants, crushed. To garnish.

Method

Moisten the rim of your martini glass with gin and then lay it down on a plate of crushed ants to coat the rim. Stand up and allow to dry. Shake the rest of ingredients with ice and strain into the glass.


The answer is: Fake! While there are cocktails with creepy crawlies in their recipes out there, this is not one of them.


The Black Ink Martini

Ingredients

50ml brandy
25ml sweet vermouth
25ml lime juice
5ml agave
10ml squid ink
oregano sprig, to garnish

Method

Add all of the ingredients to a shaker filled with ice (except for the garnish) and shake. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish.


The answer is: Real! That’s right this black cocktail comes from the New York bartender Stamatis Dimakis, of the Death Ave. Brewing Company in New York. We would love to try this with gin!


Cos-Bru-Politan

Ingredient

45ml Gin
25ml Cointreau
30ml Irn-Bru
5ml Chambord
lime, a squeeze

Method

Shake the gin, Cointreau and Chambord with ice. Add to a chilled glass and top with Irn-Bru. Finish with a squeeze of lime.


The answer is: Real! We are not sure if we are embarrassed or joyous about this brave concoction. It is perhaps the most surprising entry on here! But it is indeed a real thing, in fact it’s one of three Irn-Bru based cocktails that we know of.
