We are delighted to kick off 2015 with a magnificent January Gin of the Month - The Sabre from The West Winds Gin, all the way from Western Australia. We're sure it will bring some much-needed sunshine into our members' lives this January!
A trip down under to sample the burgeoning Australian craft gin scene also seemed fitting for January, which sees Australia Day celebrated on the 26th – more of that to come later in the month!
The West Winds The Sabre is a gin wrapped in tales of adventure and daring, made by a passionate and fun-loving team – and one that resonates with much of what we hope the Craft Gin Club represents. We’re sure our members will love this classic, citrus-led London Dry, that brings a taste of Australia with the addition of unique local botanicals such as wattle seed and myrtle – as the distillers themselves might say, “welcome to flavour town”.
Check out some of the key info about this gorgeous gin below, and look out for more gin stories, recipes and other exciting related features coming your way throughout the coming weeks. Cheers!
The Sabre from The West Winds Gin
Margaret River, Western Australia
London Dry Gin, 40% ABV
BOTANICALS
Juniper, Lemons, Limes, Orris root, Angelica, Coriander seed, Coriander root (fresh), Wattleseed, Cinnamon myrtle, Lemon myrtle, Liquorice root, All spice
TASTING NOTES
Bright and aromatic in style, with an attractive freshness and balance. Led by an undercurrent of citrus with a dominance of juniper, followed by the classic coriander seed. Very smooth and refined on the palate, the addition of wattle seed adds a depth to the mid-palate and introduces a creamy texture.
PERFECT G&T SERVE
The West Winds Gin team say: "Always remember it's a G&T not a T&G, so use lots of good ice and keep it 3:1 tonic to gin.
"Always serve with lemon, as it cuts the sweetness of the tonic and balances the drink – as opposed to lime which dominates the drink."
