The pub with the most gins in the world

A British pub has claimed the Guinness World Record for stocking the most varieties of gin after seeing off some stiff competition…from itself!

The Old Bell Inn in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester, first entered the record books in 2014, when it laid claim to stocking 404 different gins. It has now increased its range by 50% to reach a whopping 600 different varieties.

The gin with the honour of becoming number 600 is Thomas Dakin – a small batch gin, distilled in Manchester, which takes its name from a renowned 18th century gin distiller and innovator. “It’s an honour for Thomas Dakin to take its place in The Old Bell Inn’s infamous gin emporium,” said Alix Walker, gin curator for Thomas Dakin.

The owner of the Old Bell, Philip Whiteman commented on his latest achievement: “It’s incredible to think that I have produced something that is unique in the world. We have accomplished something great that our customers can enjoy.”

A spokesman for Guinness World Records said: “We would not be here if it was not for the officially amazing people that continue to break records. Whether they break a record as an individual or a team we celebrate all of their achievements.”

We’re sure The Old Bell and its customers will be celebrating this particular achievement in style – with a few G&Ts. Given how many they’ve got to choose from though, it’s probably a good job the pub offers hotel rooms as well…
